STATEMENT

Somehow my summer always seems to collide with work on the City Hall Art Collection. Last summer on behalf of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, we purchased 28 new works for the City Hall Art Collection at the John A. Wilson Building (City Hall in the Nation's Capital). This summer we're planning the party and doing an addendum to the original catalog.

I'm still learning, learning, learning. Still trying to piece together what defines DC art, what defines my art. Heck, what defines art.

If you haven't seen the collection, stop by 1350 Pennsylvannia Avenue NW, anytime Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and see our local stars.

Meanwhile, my encaustic continues to grow and wax has gotten mixed into the oil paint. 2008 hasn't been a moment quieter than last year, and I guess that is how I like it.
____________________________________________

. . . how I got here: for over 30 years, a dining room, basement or spare bedroom was transformed to become a studio. During that time, I’d sell pieces sporadically, donate art to many charities, and participate in occasional shows. In 2001, I left my too-consuming marketing job detour, moved my art-life into a separate studio, and have been doing art fulltime since.

Art has been part of my life from as long as I can remember: it never occurred to me that it would be otherwise. For me, making, seeing, thinking and enjoying art has always been as much a part of my life as TV might be to many people. Art is what I do for entertainment every day.
